Mike Day, lighting designer, gave us as insightful presentation today. He reported on the World Expo 2010 in Beijing, with the theme being 'City'. Day stressed that the Expo increases public awareness of the challenges faced in an urban age while suggested potential solutions. Its other purpose is to show China what the rest of the world is like, while sharing China with the rest of the world.
The presentation was filled with great photos of all parts of the Expo. While it did seem to drag on for a long time, I suppose there was just a lot of content to cover! Day was able to make us feel like we were actually present at the Expo. I was particularly interested in the British Pavilion that made use of a Dandelion shape.This was awarded Gold in the Pavilion Design category.
